The poet, the tale's narrator

I would not be so rude to spoil the novel's plot, but here's a brief introduction to a few of the personalities to be discovered in this revolutionary work written in lyric prose:
  • Athena. But address her as "Major." As a product of the U.S. Marine Corps, she provides a commanding presence for the group. She's unmarried, tough, tenacious, and endowed with a tactical mind.
  • Sophia. She is the engineering professor born in Hong Kong. And she has two passions: teaching her students and raising her mixed-race daughter sired by a black father.
  • Daphne. The journalism student who is as skeptical as she is talented. But what "baggage" does she carry from a past family relationship?
  • The poet. The sole male presence among them and the story's narrator. Why does this visitor from Ohio lurk in the shadows in observation of the others? What does his famous past & tragic history portend for these 42 women?
  • The ba. A hybrid entity similar to the sphinx but with the head of a man and the body of a bird. The Egyptians were, perhaps, the first culture to contemplate the existence of a human soul or spirit (i.e., ba) that survived earthly death. What happens when a man is in conflict with his soul?

And, of course, the entire story would not be complete without Isis, the ancient symbol of female majesty:

Isis, the subject of writers & artists of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome -- and now in The Bachelor Scrolls
In Part One: Isis Unleashed, the mythical goddess reveals her presence in the year 2033 in this fantastic and lyric tale of a mystical war on women, an assault on female dignity and the future of romance. Isis assumes leadership of an international network of exceptional women and men who are united by a vision of freedom and integrity in a world devoid of both. Imagine a re-awakened entity of extraordinary power that is determined to protect human families and advance the institution of marriage.
"... the one thing you can say about a myth is that there is some truth in there -- no matter how bizarre it may seem." -- Toni Morrison, novelist & Nobel laureate

Romance in the Americas will soon be looking up.
